  1. transawareness:

The above article is an update.  Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost.  She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender.  She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.

Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined.  Lets get on the ball and spread the word.

    Sign It.

This photo series is really dope.

  5. Is there such things as a gender queer femme? I have trouble reconciling the fact that I identify as gender queer BUT I wear dresses and makeup often ( I am female bodied). Thoughts. Hope this gets rid of your boredom!

    answer:

First and foremost, if someone can add to this response or correct me, I’d really appreciate it.  I’m not genderqueer so I don’t feel 100% comfortable answering with miseducation and misinformation!*

YES, I believe there is such a thing as GENDERQUEER FEMME.  Gender as a whole is very complex. And because it is complex, it is best figured out with our own introspection and with the support of fellow transfolk.  It can become confusing, as i have found myself with inner conflicts in the past. With gender, we deal with:

    1. what we are assigned at birth,

    2. what we as individuals identify ourselves as,

    3. and what others perceive us to be.

And all of those things may not align, making everything much more complicated and scary to figure out.

What i understand about genderqueer from friends and youth i worked with is that GQ is a gender identity that does not coincide with the gender/sex-binary(man/male-woman/female) and is not gender-normative (abiding with pre-prescribed lifestyle norms based on what sex/gender someone is assigned at birth).  GQ folk may identify as both man and woman, neither man nor woman, a third/separate gender of man and woman. GQ, in some circumstances, may also end up blurring the lines between gender identity and the orientation of ones sexuality. Some GQ folks strongly identify as transgender because transitioning socially, hormonally, surgically, and/or legally is essential to the persons well being. I say well being because when one is not comfortable in ones own body, that conflict can be the root of a persons unhappiness.

Being of the transgender umbrella does not necessarily mean that one has to transition, but for the survival of many, it is a necessity to transition. It has become a trend that many people appropriate identities, including gender identities. We must be conscious between the differences of admiration and identifying with something. I hope I was helpful.

P.S.  A message from a fellow tumblr-blogger: There is most definitely such thing as a female assigned at birth genderqueer femme, I know lots of people that identify that way! There is nothing inherently female about dresses, make-up, heels, or femininity.

A message from another blogger: oh, hai! I was parusing your blog and thought i’d offer some help with your recent anon ask about faab genderqueer femmes. I’m a co-admin for Fuck Yeah, Trans* Femmes, and we get a lot of faab genderqueer/nonbinary femme submissions. Does that help?

“I have completely broken with the NPD,” Strub told German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung this week, referring to the right-wing extremist National Democratic Party (NPD). “I am a true socialist.”

    That’s all.

    [TRIGGER WARNING: Added by thenakedsamba]

I dont think that people are trying to not include them. I hate that every minority feels like they should be included in every conversation. I think people talk about it as a female thing because birth is the function of a female reproductive organ, and to say men in that sentence is confusing to most people. No one is denying that trans people can get pregnant .. i feel like this is more nitpicky than anything.

Women baww all the time about rape and men can get raped too but you dont see men complaining. Even though thats a more legitimate argument because while trans person may identify as a man the act of birth is female and thats the topic. no one is trying to un-include trans gender people, but i just think no one thinks to add trans or male identifying females to the sentence of “she had to abort her child”… i mean “he/she had an abortion” is confusing and then saying “trans/male identifyin women, women have abortions” is just excessive.

Besides the fact that no one i un-including them, the topic isnt about transgendered people.. its about ABORTION. And everyone is pretty clear on what kind of people can have children, anyone with the proper reproductive organs regardless of gender identity. The issue is abortion.. its impossible to make everything PC and include EVERYONE..and its like like people are unincluding anyone… e_e

What in the actual fuck. “Women baww all the time about rape.” WHAT THE FUCK.

The sheer cissexism and ignorance at display here is appalling.

  13. Black Herstory Month: Celebrating Radical Revolutionary, Martha P. Johnson
Marsha P. Johnson was a transgender activist and a popular figure in New York City’s gay and art scene from the 1960s to the 1990s.
One of the city’s oldest and best known drag queens, Johnson participated in clashes with the police amid the Stonewall Riots. She was a co-founder, along with Sylvia Rivera, of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.) in the early 1970s. She also was the “mother” of S.T.A.R. House along with Sylvia, getting together food and clothing to help support the young queens living in the house on the lower East Side of New York.
Once, appearing in a court the judge asked Marsha, “What does the ‘P’ stand for?”, Johnson gave her customary response “Pay it No Mind.” This phrase became her trademark. In 1974 Marsha P. Johnson was photographed by famed artist Andy Warhol, as part of a “ladies and gentlemen” series of Polaroids featuring drag queens. An interview with Marsha P. Johnson by gay activist Allen Young can be found in the book “Out of the Closets: Voices of Gay Liberation,” originally published in 1972 and available in a new edition from New York University Press.
In July 1992, Johnson’s body was found floating in the Hudson River off the West Village Piers shortly after the 1992 Pride March. Police ruled the death a suicide. Johnson friends and supporters said she was not suicidal, and a people’s postering campaign later declared that Johnson had earlier been harassed near the spot where her body was found. Attempts to get the police to investigate the cause of death were unsuccessful.
Today Johnson’s legacy still survives, and popular New York City art band Antony and the Johnsons adopted their name from Johnson.
